Chrysós Aetós, also known in the Language of Humanity as Golden Eagles, heavy carriers are produced in City-State Aetós on Epsilon Prime. Chrysós Aetós vessels are considered to be among the best within all occupied space, only matched by the most advanced Federate Corporation capital ships. All Chrysós Aetós vessels, regardless of classification, have their state’s golden eagle head molded into the front of warships, which is a powerful symbol to the people of Aetós.

Their heavy carrier is the second largest vessel throughout all occupied space among the Free Worlds, not counting Frontiersmen ark ships which are in a classification all on their own. Because of strains on maintaining such a large ship, City-State Aetós only keeps 4-5 heavy carriers in service at any given time. A Chrysós Aetós heavy carrier has never been lost in combat action before, and generals of the Alliance enjoy bragging that it’s impossible to bring down one of these colossal ships. Based on the level of firepower from a heavy carrier and the support ships carried inside its lower drop docks, military academics believe that a heavy carrier could engage between three and five Free Worlds destroyers at the same time and come out victorious. This theory has never been put to the test.

Heavy carriers have lower than average transport capacity because the vessel’s interior drop dock takes up most of the ship’s inner belly and houses numerous warships to support the carrier in combat actions.

Carrying capacity:

  • 1 Cruiser

  • 3 Frigates

  • 5 Light gunships

These added vessels to a direct fire line of heavy explosive ordinances can easily overwhelm some of the most powerful Free Worlds ships.

Heavy carriers are not able to enter a planet's atmosphere and operate solely in the vacuum of space.

Weapons systems

Main Batteries: 300 bulked together in groups of 3. The main weapons fire standard armor-piercing shells weigh over 3.63 metric tons/8000 pounds and loaded by automated feeders. The tubes can fire every 15 seconds.

Secondary batteries: 2000 individual cannons spread throughout the length of the ship. Firing flak and exploding debris rounds for defensive flak walls.

Point defense weapons: Primary weapon used to destroy incoming fire that penetrates the flak wall. Standard PDF (point defense fire) is a 6-centimeter projectile using kinetic force to destroy incoming bombardment. This weapons system can fire 18,000 rounds per minute, and in close quarters battle can be used to fire directly on enemy ships. A heavy carrier has nearly one thousand of these systems spaced out throughout the outer hull.

Uranium spinners: Tertiary offensive and defensive weapons system that shoots 8,000 rounds per minute. Shells are 11-centimeter heavy mass uranium core penetrators. 200 of these advanced systems come equipped on a heavy carrier.

Missile/Torpedo tubes: 100 tubes located forward, mid and rear. Weapons canisters contain fusion and high explosive rockets.

Railguns: are available on most ships but are reserved as a last resort weapon. Railguns require power consumption from main ship reactors. During combat, those reactors are needed to power engines, sub-light, FTL, navigation, life support, and other critical ship systems. These systems are preferred during planetary bombardment along with Rods from the Gods/kinetic projectile rods.

Command deck / Command and Control / Bridge / Operations center

Like most transport ships throughout occupied space, warships keep their critical areas at the vessel’s core protected by endless layers of metal composites to shield them from assault. Warship control centers will continue to operate and issue directives even as the ship depressurizes and breaks apart. Vessels owned by extremely wealthy individuals or entities will have a core or saferoom made from Corin steel which is extremely rare.

Technology

The Free Worlds of Humanity have all reached a high point of technological evolution that still pales by comparison to Titan technology. Each has rebuilt fusion reactors, a technology from the Old World, and retrofitted faster than light jump drives to suit current needs. Glitches are still present through Free Worlds computer calculations when plotting jumps through occupied space. Misjumps, reverse jumps, hook jumps and stop jumps occur on occasion, which sometimes proves fatal. Free Worlds engineers and scientists continue to try and intertwine basic Old World technologies with the most advanced hardware available.

Chrysós Aetós vessels have technology advancements that slightly surpass all other Free Worlds except for Federate Corporation's Air and Space Cab ships.
